“PROSECUTIONS NEEDED”

FIREWOOD FROM RESERVE. MR. J. B. MURDOCH’S ASSERTION. I “Prosecutions are needed; it will be a disgraceful thing if taking firewood from the mountain reserve is allowed,” said Mr. J. B. Murdoch, chairman of the Hawera County Council, when mentioning at the meeting at Hawera on Saturday the Daily News report of a meeting of the Egmont National Park Board at which inquiries were instituted into the cutting of firewood in the east section of the reserve. ”1 understood that it was the aim of the board to preserve the forests,” said Mr. Murdoch. “Apparently in this case nothing has been done to those persons who have taken firewood. In some cases, I understand, growing timber has been cut. The preservation of the forest should be a primary consideration, and prosecutions should be instituted against persons taking the . wood.”
