Norman Hardy, aged 26, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment to-day for the smash and grab raid on Angus and Cootes’ jewellery store on August 17. It was the second time in two months that a smash and grab raid was made on this store. A brick was thrown through the window and jewellery valued at £450 taken. The man dashed off through the crowd but was stopped at the point of a revolver by a nearby shopkeeper, after which he was arrested by two detectives.
