TROUBLE MAY BE OVER
WELLINGTON WHARF DISPUTE. PREFERENCE SHIP LEAVES PORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. - Wellington, Last Night. The only development in the Wellington waterside trouble to-night was the departure of the Omana at a late hour for Auckland without handling further cargo. Now that she has gone it is understood that a general call for labour to work all vessels in port will be made to-morrow. Whether the men will accept the engagement was not known last night. It is thought possible that there may be another idle day on the waterfront to-morrow. With the exception of the Lyttelton, Picton and Nelson ferries and the American steamer Golden State, discharging from the Pacific Coast, all ships in port were idle to-day. It is understood that the watersiders refused to work overtime on the Union Company’s Omana last night and she was declared a preference ship. When a call was made for labour, this morning only the same men offered as were dismissed last’night. The employers refused to engage them.
