A suggestion that the white and the black races of the world may yet be merged into one race was propounded by Lord Raglan at the meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. He recalled an American professor’s statement that there was perhaps not a single purebred negro in the United States and that many whites also had a proportion of negro blood. “I believe it follows that before many centuries have elapsed there will not be a single person in the United States without a certain proportion of negro blood. Although the merging of the two races will not happen in Africa nearly so soon, the Europeanisation of Africa is going on and nothing will stop it.
