APPROACH OF CRICKET

STRATFORD CLUB PREPARATIONS. ANNUAL meeting of members. With an attendance of over 25 and [ many apologies for absence indicating a large membership, the annual meeting of the Stratford Cricket Club last night launched the club into the new season under favourable circumstances that should mean another year of marked progress. The chairman of the committee, Mr. C. Mcl. Young, presided. Pleasure that the position of the club was so satisfactory was voiced by the chairman in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet (already published). The . balance was not as large as that of last year, but it had to be remembered that much material was purchased during the season, which would not occur this year, while the ■ club had no liabilities and assets totalling £l9 Ils 6d. Much credit for the sound financial state was due to the work of the secretary ' appointed l at last- annual meeting, Mr. L. B. Sandford, who had since left, the district. There should be little expenditure on material except for bats and balls, said Mr. C. Massey,' who congratulated the committee on its good showing. Officers elected were:- Patron, Mr. W. J. Polson, M.P.; president, Mr. W. A. Brown; vice-presidents, seven were elected; secretary, Mr. A. Gorringe; treasurer, Mr. R. G. Cutfield; auditor, Mr. P. Skoglund; club captain, Mr. C. Mcl. Young; practice captains, Messrs. R. L. Hancock, C. Gatton, A. C. Walker and W. J. Hall; committee, Messrs. S. Hill (Thursday representative), C. Gatton, Ai C. .Walker, M. Beere, R. L. Hancock, S. Lay, A. R. BarloW; selectors, the secretary and field captains; delegates to association, Messrs. C. Young. C. Massey and C. Gatton. Mr, Massey hroved as a recommendation to' the association’ that all/senior Saturday teams play in the one grade. Mr. J. Pearce seconded. Another recommendation Was moved as an amendment by Mr. W. J. Hall and seconded by Mr. Beere that there be A and B senior sections With" six teams in the A grade instead of the four last year. The amendment was carried. Afternoon tea was favoured. The subscriptions will be the same as last' year—players over 20 years of age to pay 2s a game up to £1 5s in all and juniors to pay Is up to 10s. : Twenty-four new' members were elected.
