OVER A MILLION KILLINGS The total killings for the season in Southland approached 1,200,000 lambs and sliteep, the latter representing a very small percentage of the total and consisting chiefly of old ewes, of which there was the usual good clearance at the latter end of the season. Throughout the season the quality of the drafts of lambs was excellent, and reports received on the early shipments for the season received at Smithfield had been entirely favourable. The exporters had received glowing accounts of the shipments, the trade being apparently of the opinion that the best supplies from abroad were at present coming from Southland.
