CROQUET TEA AT HAWERA.

The spacious lounge of Somerset House was sunny with the gold of myriads of daffodils and jonquils, which nodded from brightly polished brass bowls, when Mrs. E. McLean and her daughter, Miss Jean McLean were hostesses at an afternoon party on Tuesday to raise funds for the Park Croquet Club. Over 40 club members and their friends were present,

and the result will be a worthy addition to the funds. Mrs. McLean received the guests and wore a black shilfone lace gown. Miss Jean McLean’s frock was fashioned in a golden brown suede-de-chine. Mrs. H. Hoddle assisted the joint hostesses considerably, and a competition arranged by her was won by Mrs. A. Murdoch. Flag five hundred was in progress during the greater part of the afternoon and the competition was keen, Mr. Champion, senr., winning the first

prize, with Mrs. F. Chadwick second. The consolation gift was given to Mrs. Dowden. Among the guests at tea were Mesdames A. Murdoch, J. Exley, W. A. Spragg, Howard, E. Higgs, Godfrey, Hobbs, W. Kay, W. Thomas (Foxton), B. Higgs (Stratford), W, O’Brien, Crutch, Keyes, Dowden, Meredith, F. Purser, Townsend (Waipukurau), F. Chadwick, Martin-Smith, W. Patterson, Matter, Arnold and Misses Williams, McKenna, O’Brien and Drew.
