FOOTBALLERS’ VICTORY BALL. DRESSES AT PATEA CLUB EVENT. The largest crowd seen at the Patea town hall this season attended the Patea Football Club’s victory ball this week, about 600 being present. Clever decorations introducing many, novel features were employed, the multi coloured hats worn by many of the dancers adding further to the gaiety of the occasion. A concluding dance of the season arranged to assist the Catholic parish funds was held in the Kaponga Town Hall on Tuesday. There was a good attendance, and the evening was most successful. The Rev. Father McDermott referred to the valuable work of the ladies who organised the effort and thanked them for their services. The hall was decorated with rhododendrons and spring flowers, while the supper room was decked with daffodils, acacia bloom and pink streamers. Dance music was played by Hooker’s Merrymakers, and Mr. Stewart Gordon gave songs and other items. Miss E. O’Dea played extras. Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr. S. Palmer and Miss Kirkcaldie and Mr. S. Rutherford and Miss A. Muggeridge, and a competition for a dinner was won by Mr. P. Hammersley. Messrs. L. Schicker and J. Butler were masters of ceremony. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT ELTHAM The first function to be held under the auspices of the newly-formed Eltham branch of the Stratford Technical High School Old Pupils’ Association was held last Wednesday in the form of a dance. Mr. Caldwell president of the Stratford branch, and Mr. E. L. Egarr, president of the Eltham branch, congratulated the committee on the success of their function, and the presence of a number of Stratford members added to the success of the evening. The Silver Sunbeam Orchestra played the dance music, a supper extra being contributed by Mr. L. Ware. Mr. E. Townsend was master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo was won by Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Egarr. PUNGAREHU BASKETBALL DANCE. A dance organised by the Pungarehu basketball club girls, and held in the Pungarehu hall last Friday, was an outstanding success.
