LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION

TRIBUTE TO LATE PRESIDENT. ACTIVITY IN CAUSE OF PEACE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 7. A tribute to the work of the Rev. Dr. J. Gibb, who reisigned the presidency of the League of Nations Union after being associated with the union since its inception in 1920, was paid by members of the council at the conference, which concluded to-day. It was decided to confer the honour of president emeritus on Dr. Gibb, who is at present in Australia.

The Rev. F. H. Wilkinson was unanimously elected president. Mr. R. H. Hooper was elected treasurer in place of Mr. Walter Nash, M.P., who resigned and who was elected to the council. The conference decided to urge the Government to support the policy of internationalisation of civil aviation, and that the League of Nations control all military aircraft. The following motion was also carried: “That this conference urge upon the Education Department the necessity of the carrying out of the instructions laid down in the syllabus of instruction for public schools regarding the attitude to peace and to the League of Nations. In this connection the conference would recommend that the League of Nations school book be used in schools, that fuller use be made of the School Journal, that in secondary schools the history syllabus should include some study of post-war movements leading to the understanding of foreign people and their problems, and that the university and training college prescriptions in history be brought up to date by the inclusion of some, of the important postwar movements.”
