FISHERMEN IN DISPUTE
NORWEGIANS TO SETTLE CLAIMS. REPORT FROM NAVAL OFFICER. (British Wireless.) Rugby, Sept. 5. The Norwegian Government has agreed to send representatives to London early in October to negotiate arrangements for settling the claims between British , and Norwegian fishermen for damage to gear in waters adjacent to the Norwegian coast. In the course of discussions consideration will be given to a report submitted to the British Government by Captain Fraser, of H.M.S. Harebell, which recently visited the fishing grounds off the Norwegian coast in company with Norwegian fishery patrol vessels. Captain Fraser, who was received in the most courteous and friendly manner by the Norwegian officers, was able to discuss both with them and the Norwegian Director of Fisheries practical difficulties which require a solution. It is hoped that the meeting in October not only will enable arrangements to be reached for a more expeditious settlement of claims for damage to gear but will also serve to clear up misunderstandings and, by eliminating the practical cause of disputes, create an atmosphere in which questions of principle, if it is necessary to raise them, can be considered on their merits.
