Mr. H. D. Skinner, Dunedin, is visiting New Plymouth. He is lecturer on ethnology at the University of Otago. Mr. H. Holland, M.P., and Mrs. Holland, Christchurch, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. Zorn, Paynter’s Avenue, Fitzroy. The death of Mr. F. Briant, Labour member for North Lambeth, is reported in a London cable. Sir Alec Roberts is acting as District Governor of ■ Rotary in New Zealand until Mr. J. M. A. Hott returns from America. "
Mr. F. C. Goodenough, chairman of Barclay’s Bank Ltd., and its subsidiaries, died at London on Saturday, says a cable message. He was 68 years old. Mr. John Masefield, Poet Laureate, will leave England for Australia on September 1 to attend the Melbourne Centenary, states a cable from London. Mr. A. Way, secretary of the Marton Jockey Club, was a visitor to New Plymouth at the week-end. He attended the hunt races on Saturday and returned home yesterday. Mr. J. T. Johnson, Te Awamutu, is visiting New Plymouth in connection with the 90th anniversary of the Fitzroy Methodist Church. He is the guest of Mrs. J. Symons, Fitzroy. Advice has been received that Mr. J. W. Rodden, secretary of the Kairanga Dairy Company for the past ten years, has been appointed assistant -manager in London for the New Zealand Dairy Board, states a Press Association message from Palmerston North. Mr. N. M. Smith, Wellington, has been appointed manager of the newly-estab-lished branch of the Bank of New South Wales at Rotorua, relieving Mr. N. M. Hendry, of the inspecting staff of the bank, who was acting as temporary manager.
Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, Dominion president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, and the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., Dominion vicepresident, will attend the biennial conference at Melbourne, from October 25 to November 9, of the British Empire Service League.
