Luck Of The Toss
A remarkable instance of the way in which the luck, of .winning the toss in cricket will even up. over a long period is afforded by the Test matches between England and Australia. When W. M. Woodfull won the toss at Kennington Oval in the fifth Test he brought the two countries air square in this respect. , The number of Test matches played between England and Australia is now 134. Each country has, won the toss 67 times. Australia is now - one ahead in victories on the field, having won 53 'of ’ these matches to England’s 52, .and 29 having been .drawn. When Sir Stanley Jackson; chairman of England’s Selection ; Committee this year, was captain of England in 1905 he won the toss , from Joe Darling for all five Tests. Four years later M. A. Noble, then captaining Australia, wbn the toss in air five Tests, from A. C. MacLarcii. . /,. . . .
