South’ Island Rugby League fixture was played at Carlaw Park on Saturday. North won . by 36 —18. Fine weather .prevailed-.and 10,000 people witnessed a splendid game. In the first half South was superior, the - backs being seen in good passing bouts. - The South forwards dominated- the play and gained possession of the ball, giving : the South an advantage until the North ' changed its hooker... ' .... It was a triumph for Copke,, ex- All Black, who played a brilliant game. The play was fast and exciting and the crowd was' satisfied. The game revealed tor" Aucklanders an improvement in the standard of the South play. J; Amps and P. Scott were the best South backs. Morris impressed on the wing.. . Hamberger, Sco.tt and Glynn Were the best forwards.. Early in the game Powell - beat.-.the South five-eighths and passed to Pren- .w, tice, but Cooke missed a try.
