EVENING AT RAHOTU, A flag five huidred evening wiis- held in the supper room of .the Rahotq hall on Saturday in. aid of the funds cf the Rahotu Croquet Club. Thirteen tables participated, a number , of ..visitors being present , from New Plymouth. Flag five hundred, -which is rather a novelty at Rahotu, having been played there only once before, was controlledby Mr. F, L. Hartnell, New Plymouth, .and- it at once met with favour. Mr.. Hartnell presented the, Rahotu club with the flags and stands used that evening. The prize-winning table, comprised Mesdames ,K. N. Andrews and H. G. Clark, Mr. and Mrs. J. Garcia, and the consolation table comprised Mrs. W. H. Waswo, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cochrane and Mr. Geisher. The prizes were presented by Mr. Hartnell, w-io .expressed appreciation at , the tendance at the. initial evening, which-he hoped, would’.be the forerunner of many more evenings -for the club.; Mesdames H. G. Clarke, president of-; .the Rahotu Croquet Club, and W,. H. Butlfer thanked Mr. Hartnell for having come, from -New Plymouth'to- initiate flag five hundred. . Supper was served by a<-committee, of the - club, comprising Mesdames H. G. Clarke, W,. H,. Butler, R. Morgan, C. Field and D. Hawke. . • ■
Mr. - Hartnell took tile Opportunity on his first appearance at a -public gathering at Rahotu to express .thanks .on behalf of the Relumed Soldiers’ Association for the wonderful, the people of Rahotu district in-raising funds for Poppy Day. On a population basis their effort must be far ahead of that of. any. other district.
