METHODIST CELEBRATION

SERVICES AT NEW PLYMOUTH. Another of the series of commemoration services being held by Methodist churches at New Plymouth was conducted at the Fitzroy Church last night .by Mr. J. T. Johnson, vice-president of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand. Mr. Johnson took his text from St. Luke 19-10, “For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which is lost,” and expanded at length “the graciousness and sympathy of God with sinners.” The greatest calamity that could befall any human being, he said, was to lose touch with Christ. This was the supreme loss. He stressed the comfort given in the assurance of the text, however, that while it told of man’s search for God it also told of God’s search for man. The gospel of Jesus Christ was the gospel of the second chance.
