NO ACTION BY MINISTER
REFUSAL OF LEAVE TO TEACHER. MAY RESIGN AND APPLY AGAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation waited on the Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, to protest against' the action of the Wellington Education Board in refusing to grant six months’ leave without pay to Mr. M. Riske, M.A., a teacher employed by the board, for the purpose of visiting , Russia. “I should like to say that this question does not come under my jurisdiction,” said the Minister in reply. “I have no jurisdiction whatever over the matter of whether or not Mr Riske goes to Russia. As far as resigning is concerned Mr. Riske may do so if he wishes. He is just as entitled to a position on his return as anyone else. He may apply for any position in New Zealand, and provided he has the right grading he must be considered. “I cannot alter the decision of the board As a matter of fact I have never interfered with the administrative affairs of education boards, and I do not intend to make a precedent in this case.”
