GRAND NATIONAL HURDLES SECOND DAY AT RICCARTON VALPEEN WINS STEEPLES SWEET AGNES SUCCEEDS By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting was continued to-day. The weather was fine and the track in fast order. The attendance was good. The totalisator investments were £27,015 10s (win £11,763, place £15,852 10s), compared with £24,737 10s last year. The results are:— HUNT CUP STEEPLECHASE. Of £2OO. Two and a-half miles. 6-6—SNOWY DAWN, 9.0 (Langford) 1 S.S—WILLOW GLEN, 9.3 (Turner) .. 2 2-I—NIGHT CLUB, 9.12 (Beale) 3 Also started: 1-3 Currajong 10/o, 3-2 Taura Lad 10.0, 4-4 Royal Buck, 7-7 Marco Polo 9.0. Currajong fell at the first of the Kennels double. Taura Lad and Royal Buck shared the lead until the top of the straight, where Snowy Dawn went to the front and won easily by eight lengths from Willow Glen. Night Club was six lengths away and Royal Buck fourth. Time, sm. 14s. WOOLSTON HANDICAP. Of £l5O. Sevn furlongs. 1- KNOCKFIN, 9.0 (Kirwan) 1 2- HUNTING JAY, 10.0 (B. H. Knockfin led across the top from Hunting Jay, Rose of Tralee, Dollar Prince, Windward, Top Rank, Grampian and Weatherly. Knockfin entered the straight clear of Hunting Jay, Dollar Prince and Colossian and won easf” by three lengths from Hunting Jay, with Weatherly two lengths away and Dollar Prince' fourth. Time, Im. 26 3-ss. BEAUFORT STEEPLECHASE. Of £350. About two and a-half miles. 1— VALPEEN. 11.9 (Peart) 1 2— PUNCHESTOWN, 10.4 (Langford) . 2 4—KAPUNA, 9.10 (Anderton) 3 Also started: 3 Callamart 11.3. Valpeen led all the way until approaching the top of the straight the second time, where Punchestown headed him and led over the last fence, with Kapuna and Callamart well back. In a good finish Valpeen beat Purichestown by three-quarters of a length, with Kapuna 15 lengths away. Time, sm. 12s.

Morris) .. 3 Also started: 9-10 Water Power 8.10, 1-1 Limbohm 8.9, 6-6 Prince Vai 8.8,- 8-7 Giggleswick 8.3, 7-8 Red Sun 8.3, 4-4 Mercian Prince 8.1, 1 10-9 Cleaner, 11-11 Haulbowline, 12-12 Palmary 8.0. Haulbowline led past the mile post from Prince Vai, Vintage, Tiger Gain, Giggleswick, Mercian Prince, Cleaner and Davolo. was four lengths clear of Prince Vai at the far turn, followed by Tiger Gain, Vintage, Mercian Prince, Giggleswick, Limbohm, Red Sun and Davolo. Haulbowline still led into tne straight from Prince Vai, Vintage, Tiger Gain and Davolo, The last-named finished strongly and won by three lengths from Tiger Gain, Vintage two lengths away and Cleaner’fourth. Drinkwater) 1 6- PAHU, 9.9 (Nicol) 2 8- FREE AIR, 9.0 (Mcßae) 3 Also started: 1-2 Hounslow 10.9, 2-1 Rasouli 10.4, 11-14 Billy Boy 10.2, 4-4 Invictus, 13-12 Blacksmith 9.9, 10-8 Royal Lineage 9.8, 9-11 Mount Boa 9.5, 3-3 Cargen 9.2, 12-13 Royal Limond, 7-7 Arcade 9.0. Arcade led over the first fence from Royal Lineage, Invictus, Blacksmith, Cargen and Hounslow. Arcade was two lengths clear of Royal Lineage rounding the far turn, and these two were followed across the top by Blacksmith, Invictus, Cargen, Huntique, Hounslow, Pahu and Rasouli. The last-named fell at the stands jump. Arcade led into the back from Huntique, Pahu, Hounslow and Blacksmith. Huntique drew up to Arcade six furlongs from home and was followed across the top by Arcade, Pahu, Royal Lineage, Royal Limond, Hounslow and Invictus. Pahu and Huntique were first over the last fence from Fre Air, Royal Lineage and Royal Limond. Huntique outstayed Pahu in the run home and won by thiee lengths, with Free Air two lengths away and Royal Limond fourth. Time, 4m. 465. SPREYDON HURDLE RACE. Of £2OO. One and three-quarter miles. 1- BRIGADORE, 9.12 (Trillo) 1 3- EMOTION, 10.13 (Mcßae) 2 7- SUNWARD, 9.0 (Beale) 3 Also started: 9-10 Gold Knight, 5-3 Verden 9.3, 4-4 Transact, 2-2 Revision 9.6, 6-6 Chile, 10-9 Night Parade, 11-11 Starshooter, 8-8 Pleasart Memory, 12-12 Coll 9.0. Emotion and Brigadore jumped the last fence practically together and in a good finish Brigadore beat Emotion by a head, with Sunward six lengths away and Chile fourth. Time, 3m. 10 3-ss. Scratchmere Scar and Reminder were the leaders across the top and were followed into the straight by Horowhenua, Sibella and Star Raider.
