PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr. J. Thomlinson, South Road, Hawera, who has been in a private hospital, returned to his home on Wednesday. Mr. J. W. Tong, formerly of Hawera, died in the Auckland hospital on Saturday at the age of 63. He was under an anaesthetic for an operation at the time. Mr. Tong was in business at Hawera as a builder for many years, and later was principal of the firm of J. W. Tong Ltd., manufacturers of cement products. He disposed of the business and retired to Auckland. WAVERLEY CIVIL CASES. MAGISTRATE’S COURT SITTING. Judgment was given for plaintiffs by default in the following undefended civil cases at the Waverley Magistrate’s Court yesterday by Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M.: Bromileys Ltd. v. W. H. Solapd, costs only I7s; T. W. Wall Ltd. v. J. G. Verry £9 6s tcosts £2 5s 6d). Under judgment summons proceedings D. Burke was ordered to pay Cunningham Bros. Ltd. £2 6s forthwith, in default two days’ imprisonment ADVERTISERS’ ANNOUNCEMENTS. The annual general meeting of the Manaia Fire Brigade will be held at the fire station, Manaia, to-night. •
