GOOD SHOOTING OF TOKO MEN.

EIGHT CLASSIFY AS MARKSMEN.

The Toko Troop, Q.A.M.R., headquarters signallers, shooting on Mr. T. A. Rowe’s property, Toko, into Mr. Harris’ property, Pukengahu, completed their annual classification on Wednesday, the shooting being of a high standard and comparing favourably with that of last year. Five practices were fired. Those with a score of 110 and over were classified marksmen and all qualified with 60 points or over. After the shooting Lieut. Hosking thanked Mr. Rowe for having granted the use of his property to the troop. Mr. Rowe said he was pleased to Help’ the volunteers in any way possible. In .the following details the points in order are for grouping, application, snap, rapid, application and total:—

MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOT. After returning the same score (320) as J. Oliver’s (team, that captained by R. Penniall won the shoot-off and won the teams’ competition at the miniature rifle range of the Stratford Legion of Frontiersmen on Tuesday night. Members of the two leading teams and their scores were: R. Penniall 71, N. Bird 55, T. Sullivan 59, J. Corlett 74, F. Aitken 61; total, 320. F. Oliver 60, E. Blanchard 74, A. Wright 64, E. Murphy 63, M. Feek 59; total, 320. The highest individual score was secured by E. Blanchard with 79 out of 80 and he retains the silver button for the second time. J. Corlett was next with 78, A. Coleman 72, and J. Reynolds 68. GENERAL ITEMS Installation of Footpath Lighting. The. installation of lamps under verandahs of central Broadway business premises was commenced yesterday by the contractor, Mr. A. E. Moss. The scheme, of which the aim is to furnish uniform lighting of the paths, provides for a lamp every 18 feet, eight feet above the path. Boy Injured by Car. The ten-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Bielawski, Ariel Street, Stratford, sustained severe leg injuries when he was knocked down by a motor-car while crossing Regan Street on Tuesday evening. The driver stopped and accompanied the boy to the gate of his home, but did not otherwise report the accident’or make known his identity. When Dr. Steven examined the boy he immediately ordered him to hospital, where his condition is reported to be satisfactory. School Grounds Improvement, At yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Education Board it was decided, t the recommendation of the finance and building committee, to approve a grant of £3O for improvements to the grounds of the Stratford public school. Planting at Racecourse. “Over 600 trees have been planted on the property and of these 390 were planted during the past year,” stated the president? Mr. D. J. ' Malone, at the annual meeting of the Stratford Racing Club last night when outlining what had been done to enhance Te Kapua Park and what scheme the committee had in view of the the future. LORRY AND CAR COLLIDE. ' MEN CUT AND BRUISED. After a car and a lorry collided in Broadway North, Stratford, on Tuesday night the driver of the car, Phillip Gaffeney,, Midhirst, was thrown into the road, where he was f< und clinging to the steering wheel which had been snapped off by the impact. Accompanying Gaffeney was a Mr. Peterson. They were driving towards Midhirst and the lorry, which was proceeding in the opposite direction, was a Taranaki Power Board vehicle driven by Ernest Coad, who had with him a passenger, Leo F. Nielson. Dr. B. B. Armstrong attended the men, who were then able to go to their homes. Nielson was cut on the forehead, Peterson was slightly injured and Gaffeney was cut about the face. LOWGARTH BALL SUCCESS. WOMEN’S DIVISION FUNCTION. The second annual ball of the Lowgarth branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Friday in the Lowgarth hall, when there was a large attendance from all the surrounding districts. Paper hats, confetti and streamers added a carnival touch to the evening, which went with a swing. Elocutionary items by Miss Noreen Fake (Eltham) and national and tap dances by Miss Alix Morrison (Waverley) were enjoyed. Monte Carlos were won by Mr. R. Hignett and Miss McDonald, and Mr. J. Whyte and Miss Russ. Paper hat prizes went to Miss Iris Babington and Mr. A. Moody. Dance extras were played by Mrs. A. A. Piper and Miss E. Cocker. Messrs. F. Willan and A. A. Piper were masters of ceremonies. Vinsen’s Ambassadors played the music.
