WAIMATE COUNTY AFFAIRS

COUNCIL'S MONTHLY MEETING. WORK ON THE DISTRICT ROADS. The monthly meeting of the Waimate West County Council was held at Manaia yesterday, those present being Crs. E. Long (chairman), F. Mourie, J. S. McKay, T. A. Bridge. J. Leslie, S. C. Fleming, and H. Buxton, and Messrs. V. H. Hobday (county clerk) and J. A. Hansen (engineer). The work of crushing'3oo yards of stone and refacing 60 chains of Rowan Road was now finished, reported the engineer. Crushing and bitumen work had been done for the Kaupokonui Dairy Company at the new factory. The crusher.was now on the Upper Inaha Road and a start had been made with the resurfacing of the road. Maintenance work had been carried out on the Skeet, Oeo, Main South and Manaia Roads. The obtaining of stickers to use during the organised inspection of car headlights and brakes was left to the engineer.

The Hawera Ramblers’ Cycle Cluj? was granted permission for riders engaged in its big amateur cycle race on August 29 to pass over Waimate county (roads.
