DENIAL BY THE MINISTER

AUTHORITY TO SHOOT PIGEONS.

NO WARRANT FOR STATEMENT.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Aug. 3.

There was no warrant for the statement being made that he had given authority to Maoris to shoot protected pigeons, said Sir Apirana Ngata, Native Minister, to-day. Representations were made by Ruatoki Maoris in April, but they were informed that the prohibition was statutory and that the Government had no power to vary it.
