Mr. Geo. Goodwin has been re-elected chairman of directors of the Brooklands Dairy Company for the 11th year. Mr. P. O’Sullivan, jun., who has been spending a holiday with his parents at Okato, leaves on his return to Whakatane to-morrow. The death of Mr. Leslie Hardie, aged 61, chief inspector for the Christchurch City Council, is reported in a Press Association message. He had been an employee for 30 years. The Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt. Rev. A. A. David, has accepted an invitation to attend the Melbourne Centenary celebrations, and will sail on September 29, says a London cable. The death occurred at Nelson yesterday after a short illness of the Very Rev. Father John O’Connell, S.M., parish priest of Nelson. He was bom at Christchurch in 1869, educated at St. Patrick’s College and the Marist Seminary in Hawke’s Bay. He was formerly administrator of Christchurch cathedral, head and one of the founders of the Marist missioners, parish priest at St. Mary of the Angels, Wellington and Wanganui, and lately of Nelson. He is survived by his mother at Christchurch.
