INTERPROVINCIAL BOXING

FINE BOUTS AT HAWERA. Some of the finest boxing to be seen at Hawera for some time will be staged in the football gymnasium to-morrow night, when interprovincial contests between Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki will be held. There will be 11 bouts, and as each of the Hawke’s Bay men is a champion or near champion, while Taranaki’s representatives are all well known, some fine contests should be provided. The Hawera Boxing Association is to be complimented on its enterprise in promoting the contest, for it is no easy task to arrange for a party of 11 boxers and officials to make a 200-mile trip. Transport, however, has been satisfactorily arranged. The chief attraction will be the meeting between Stock, Hawke’s Bay, a clever boxer of, considering his weight, remarkable physique, and Jack Jarvis. Even though Stock is reported to be of great strength, he will be matched against a boy whose ringcraft, ability and punch make him one of the finest amateurs the province has had for years., A number of the other Hawke’s Bay representatives are-little below Stock in strength and. ability, and the average standard is really good. The Taranaki representatives, however, are of excellent standard, and the fine showing made at Wanganui recently will ensure that the Bay representatives will need all their cleverness to defeat the Taranaki team.
