TARIKI DISTRICT NEWS

BENEFIT DANCE AND EUCHRE. The benefit dance held in the Tariki hall last week was largely attended and was an outstanding success. Harris Bros, played excellent music, with extras by Miss M. Dombroski and Messrs. L. Harris and H. Humphries. A carnival effect was carried out with streamers, confetti, paper hats and novelty dances. A Monte Carlo waltz, was won by Mr. and Mrs. P. Roberts (New Plymouth), and a Dutch Monte Carlo by Mr. R. Rumball and partner. The “bobbing waltz” was won by Miss H. Young and partner, and a statue log cabin by Mrs. E. Therkleson and J. Wilson.

The euchre room, in charge of Mr. I. McCullum, was well attended. The results are: Mrs. P. Roberts (N.P.) 1, Miss M. Dombroski (Durham Road) 2, Mrs. Bowling (Ngairo Road) 3; lucky seat, Mrs. R. James; Mr. P. Drodroski (John’s Road) 1, Mr. G. Davis (Rugby Road) 2, Mr. H. Kerr (Surrey Road) 3; lucky seat, Mr. Isgar. ■ A home-made supper was served by a willing band of helpers. Messrs. B. Dombroski and T. Kelly were masters of ceremony. During the evening Mr. B. Dombroski on behalf of the organisers returned thanks to all present and to all those who had helped in any way to make the gathering the success it was. Basketball Match.

On the Tariki ground on Tuesday a team from Tuna met and defeated the Tariki junior team by 12 to 2. ’ Mrs. L. Loveridge refereed.

Competition Hockey Match. In the final match between Inglewood and Tariki junior women’s hockey teams, which were equal in the central division competition, played at Stratford, Inglewood won the shield. The Tariki women put up a very creditable performance,

this being the first introduction to the game of all players except two. Next season some good hockey should be witnessed from these players.

Euchre Party and Dance. The second of a series of weekly euchre parties to raise funds for the Ladies’ Hockey Club was held in the Tariki Hall on Saturday night. There was a fair attendance. Following are the results: Mrs. R. James 1, Miss G. Rumball 2, after a re-play with Mrs. E. Therkleson; Mr. T. Kelly 1, after a replay with Mr. B. James, who took second place. Supper was served, after which dancing was continued until midnight.

Personal Items. Mrs. Grant, Papakura, is paying a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Young, Tariki Road. Miss Browning left on Monday for Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. McCullum left on holiday for Tauranga by car. Mrs. W. Blair left oh Tuesday morning for 'Wellington. Mr. J. Trass has returned from his holiday spent at Auckland.
