PRESENTATION AT MELBOURNE.

NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB PRAISED.

According to advice received by Mr. S. E. Nielson, secretary of the. New Plymouth Aero Club,. Mr. B. Shiel, acting chief aviation officer of the Vacuum Oil Company, recently presented to the vicepresident of the Victorian division of the AustralianAero Club a .4et of photographs of the New Plymouth a’.rport. The presentation, made on behalf of the New Plymouth Aero Club, took place in the Australian club’s rootTs at Essendon aerodrome, Melbourne. Mr. Shiel said the-New Plymouth club had been remarkable for the' unselfishness of its policy, placing the progress of aviation for the benefit of the district before its 'own interests. The club had achieved something for the British Empire when the New Plymouth Airport Board was formed to take over and enlarge the aerodrome. It was now certain that New Plymouth v.ould be the port of New Zealand for air traffic from Australia. Future generations would appreciate the foresight of the present aero club.

The acting-president of the Australian club, replying, said he was interested to hear of the development of aviation at New Plymouth and hoped to meet some of its aero club members at Melbourne at the finish of the centenary air race. Before making the presentation Mr. Shiel had delivered a lecture on the, organisation of the centenary race before a large gathering of club members The meeting concluded with a demonstration of night flying by club pilots.
