YORKSHIRE GAME DRAWN

AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS COUNTY’S SECOND TOTAL 157 VISITORS BAT 40 MINUTES BOWLING GIVES PRACTICE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 17. The cricket match between Yorkshire and the Australians was drawn. The Australians with 348 secured a lead of eight on the first innings and dismissed the county in the second innings for 157. At stumps the Australians had lost one for 28. Wall took three wickets for 36. Despite a teg injury preventing him from bowling at top speed, Bowes put up an excellent performance in Australia’s first innings. He took three for 10 to-day. Yorkshire re-opened at 12.15. Wall quickly dismissed Mitchell. Barber, in trying to glance Ebeling’s in-swinger, was bowled, two wickets being down for 7 runs. Only one had been added when the first ball in Wall’s next over fizzling from the pitch flattened Leyland’s off stump. A precarious but stubborn stand was made by Wood and Turner, who lasted until just before lunch, when Fleet-wood-Smith bowled Turner. 4—45. Wood, who is normally number eight batsman, continued to surprise by the tenacity with which he defied the spin bowlers. He reached 50 in 115 minutes and the total of 102 was raised in 125 minutes. Wood was out next over and Selters was bowled neck and crop. At this stage six wickets were down for 102. Good crisp batting by Verity and Smailes restored Yorkshire’s fortunes. When Yorkshire were dismissed only 40 minutes remained, so as it was impossible to win, Brown and McCabe contented themselves with steady practice against the innocuous bowling.
