BOXING TITLE REGAINED

RAY NICOL DEFEATS STRICKLAND. . new ZEALAND HEAVYWEIGHTS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, Last Night. Ray Nicol (Ohai) regained the heavyweight boxing title of New Zealand, which he forfeited recently owing to an arm injury, when he defeated Maurice Strickland (Wellington) on points tonight before a crowded house. Nicol’s weight was 12st 71b and Strickland’s 12s 121 b. Nicol made his opponent miss a great deal by clever ducking, and he scored by superior work at close range. Strickland did not seem to be happy against the tactics adopted by Nicoi. Strickland was eager to win by a knockout, but though he connected with head punches on several occasions he at no time had Nicol at his mercy, as was the case when they previously met. Nicol was clearly ahead on points.
