DEATH OF MR. E. W. KANE

THE CLERK OF PARLIAMENTS. NEARLY 50 YEARS ON THE STAFF. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, July 17. The death occurred to-day of Mr. Edward William Kane, C.M.G., JP., Clerk of Parliaments, after a brief but serious illness. Mr. Kane intended when young to follow a legal career, and was articled to a barrister and solicitor, but had to discontinue study on account of his health. He joined the Parliament staff in 1886, and occupied numerous positions till 'appointed Clerk of Parliaments and of the Legislative • Council in 1930. Mr. Kane survived every member of either House from the time he joined the staff. He was keenly interested in sport, particularly football and cricket. He was a life member of the Wellington Racing Club. His wife, Mrs. Rosetta Kane, the wellknown social worker, also died recently.
