WIMBLEDON TENNIS GAMES LOTT ELIMINATES STEFANI. MEN’S SINGLES SECOND ROUND. PLAY BEGUN IN WOMEN’S EVENTS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, June 26. E. D. Andrews and C. E. Malfroy (New Zealand) both won their matches in the second round of the men’s singles at the Wimbledon tennis tournament, which was continued to-day. Stefani (Italy) was the first seeded player te be eliminated. Lott (U.S.A.) troubled the Italian with heavily sliced shots.
Austin (Britain) was in great form and convincingly defeated Denker (Holland). Perry (Britain) continued to display confident stroking. He is the definite favourite for the title with English enthusiasts.
Menzel (Czecho-Slovakia) overwhelmed Gentien (France), while the coolness and fast footwork of Hecht, another Czechoslovakian, was responsible for the elimination of Maier (Spain). Nishimura (Japan) against Siba (Spain) had a point for a s—o lead in the fifth set, yet he lost. Crawford (Australia) did not take the match against the German Henkel seriously, and experimented with cuts and slices with an extra tight racquet. Turnbull (Australia), whose all-round game has greatly improved, served magnificently and completely outplayed Miki (Japan). Second round men’s singles matches resulted:—

Jones (U.S.A.) defeated Hughes (England), 2-6, 6-4, 7-5, 1-6, Lott (U.S.A.) defeated Stefani (Italy), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Kirby (South Africa) defeated Legeay (France), 4-6, 6-4, 2-6, 7—5, 6-0.
