DISTRICT FOOTBALL MATCHES. The Matiere senior and junior football teams played the Tokirima teams on Saturday, and were defeated in both games. The senior game ended 10-ijil, two tries and a field goal. The junior score was 8-nil, two tries, one converted. Both games were fairly open, the home team’s forwards proving too solid in die ruck, and in the open the combination of forwards and backs showed certain handling. The Tokirima senior team is third’in the sub-union competition, the junior holding second place. Ohura and Niho Niho hold first places in the competitions. The farmers are taking advantage of the splendid weather for crutching. Mrs. O. Old has returned after a holiday in Karori. Miss F. Penny has returned after a lengthy holiday in the Auckland district. Messrs. H. and T. Johnston visited the Hawera show. Mr. E. Freeh is visiting Hawera and Wanganui. Miss Dora Sheat, Bible class organiser, paid a visit to the Tokirima class last Wednesday evening, and gave an interesting address about the forward movement. Several senior members are studying Bible class leadership.
