FARM FINANCE PROBLEM
EVIDENCE BEFORE COMMISSION. NINE WITNESSES AT STRATFORD. General evidence on the commission’s order of reference was given before the Dairy Commission at Stratford yesterday. Mr. W. Taylor, chairman of the Taranaki Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, Mr. J. L. Taylor, vice-president of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, and Mr. H. E. Blyde, president of the North Taranaki provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union, gave evidence on methods of manufacture. Mr. Blyde also spoke on the reduction of costs in dairying, and the question of further financial assistance to the farmer. He was supported by Mr. A. Wood, valuer and farm investigator.
Farm finance, in relation particularly to stock and mortgages, was the subject of the evidence of Mr. W. A. Sheat, a member of the South Taranaki provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union. Messrs. A. E. Baker, farmer, Pukearuhe, and E. Maxted, farmer, Waitoitoi, also spoke on farm finance and mortgages. The matter of uneconomic production was referred to by Mr. H. A. Hunt. Mr. J. Cocker, farmer, Eltham, gave general evidence.
