FARMERS’ CO-OP.- DISPLAY

A display that is packed with interest for ■ farmer and townsman alike is that of the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society Ltd. It is not arranged on quite such ambitious lines as was the case last year, but, if the general exhibit is more compact, then more is to be seen from the same spot without the need to move on. All the articles displayed are stocked at the society’s various branches throughout Taranaki, but, in the space available, only a very small part of the wide range of goods, groceries, and general merchandise with which the shelves of the co-operative store a'i’oining the offices iti Regan Street are loaded could be transferred to the show. The display, however, will convey a general idea of the extent of the Society’s business in this department and is sufficient to indicate a stock capable of satisfying every order. This year a feature is made of the harness handled by the society. The fine strong collars, winkers, saddles, traces, etc., are manufactured especially for the co-operative out of Stratford leather. Having seen the finished article and examined the raw material, farmers will be pleasantly surprised at the range of prices the attendants will be able to quote.

It is with a confidence founded upon the experience of years that the cooperative recommends Osmond’s patent cattle medicines. Farmers are urged not merely to read the labels, but to seize this opportunity of ascertaining the real value that is offered them with each particular remedy. For instance, Osmond’s red draught-cleansing and general cow drench is almost a by-word in Taranaki, but do you know just how effective it really is when used at the proper time and in the proper manner. Osmond’s Ethodyne is claimed to be the greatest Lincolnshire remedy for gripes in horses, hoven or blown in cattle or sheep, diarrhoea or scour in all stock. Find out about this cattle life-saver. Then again, with the commencement of another dairy season only a few weeks away, special attention is merited by Osmond’s Oxygas, a proved cure for milk fever, inflamed udders and the after effects of calving and lambing. Osmond’s pig powders and poultry powders are other medicines that should not lightly be passed over. “Co-op.” pedigree tested seeds are in high favour in this province. They are displayed al the stand and there also may be seen samples of the root crops grown from the same seeds. Seeds are such little things, but they spell a big meaning when absolute dependence can be placed upon their germination. The co-operative’s range of milk cans and buckets are made by Hardley, of Auckland, and also the well-known Harvey firm of manufacturers.

• Adjoining the merchandise display, one of the most attractive features of the show is to be found in the exhibit of Southern Cross biscuits, for which the society is agent. This company has a proposition to put before farmers. It uses 2500 tons of farm produce each year in wheat, flour, butter, milk, cheese, eggs, etc. It employs 74 hands and pays £lO,OOO a year in wages. Farmers, says the company, can assist it by stipulating Southern Cross biscuits when they buy biscuits. The co-operative at another stand demonstrates the Philco and S.T.C. radios, claimed to be Britain’s and America’s best.
