Opening the Legislative Council the Governor, Sir A. G. Fletcher, announced that the Secretary of State had approved of loans of £290,000 for public works in the Colony, including new Government offices, roads and a Rewa River bridge. The .Colony’s reserves amount to £509,000.
Quota legislation on cotton and artificial silk piece goods to protect the British manufacturer will be introduced. In the Governor’s opinion the Colony’s prospects of a good sugar crop promise well. The prices ruling are higher, and the coconut yield is particularly plentiful, although prices are steady. Gold prospects are favourable, and there are prospects of the tourist business expanding.
