SECONDARY SCHOOL RUGBY
SOUTH ISLAND TOURNAMENT. STUDENT PLAY’ER QUESTION. Invercargill, June 19. Reference to the deadlock regarding the South Island secondary schools tournament was made at a meeting of the Southland Rugby Union last night by Mr. R. T. Meredith, who suggested that they get into touch with the Otago and Canterbury Unions and see if something could be done to get the tournament under way again. It was too valuable an event to let slip into oblivion, he said. Mr. A. J. Geddes said the question was a delicate one for the union as the schools had always run their tournaments themselves. He favoured the age limit that had been suggested. It was a debatable point whether terms’ students were actually school pupils for the purpose of deciding eligibility. It was decided to wri ; to the Canterbury and Otago unions expressing regret that such a position had arisen and inquiring if anything could be done to get the parties together and have the fixtures continued.
