NET PROFIT OF £631 MADE
| BOROUGH ELECTRICAL TRADING. INCREASE IN NEW PLYMOUTH. A net profit in the trading department of £631 13s 6d, compared with £521 9s 4d foi’ the previous annual period, was shown in the electrical engineer’s (Mr. W. H. Huggett) eleventh annual report on the electricity department’s working for the year ended March 31, 1934, presented to last night’s meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council. In the trading department, stated the report, the year had been a fairly quiet one, yet the turnover had been substantial, and, after reducing rent and all working and other costs, including petrol and motor- truck maintenance, the net profit was £631 13s 6d, as against £521 9s 4d for last year. Business generally had been well maintained, and the system continues to expand and develop. The number of applications received for a supply of electrical energy was 165 and 168 new connections had been added to the system. Additions made to existing installations in addition to alterations and additions resulting from inspections as required under the Public Works Department .regulations totalled 718, representing an increase in connected load of 1007 k.w.
Comparative summarised figures for 1933 and 1934 respectively were; Lighting, 75, 101; heating and cooking, 950, 790; power, 150, 116; totals 1175 k.w. and 1007 k.w. Applications received, 200, 165; new connections, 195, 168; additions, 875, 718; total units generated at power station, 12,060.669, 11,893,434; purchased from P.W.D. 4,387,800, 4,249,800; total 16,448,469, 16,143,234. Units sold, 13,743,017, 13,857,263. Revenue received: From sale of energy, £70,409, £68,605; sale of goods etc. and work done, £7,587, £7,517; total wages paid, £11,938, £12,117; energy purchased, £B4OO £8420. The number of electric ranges installed during the year was 18, making a total of 940. Also 76 water heaters had been connected to the system, making a total of 1048, or a total combined connected load of 5330 k.w. The number of motors installed during the year was 102, with a total horsepower of 117, making a grand total of 6220 horsepower connected.
