RAILWAY RESERVE COTTAGES

SEVERAL OCCUPANTS LEAVING. DEPARTMENT WISHES VACATION. Recently the district engineer of railways wrote to the New Plymouth Borough Council intimating that the Railway Department was agreeable to the occupants of the tents and temporary buildings on the railway reserve, Moturoa, being given until the end of February next to vacate provided the council gave a guarantee that the erections referred to were removed on or before that date.

On the works committee's recommendation the council decided last night that in reply to his letter the district engineer be informed that it was impossible to give the guarantee required and that under the circumstances the council would endeavour to get the buildings in question removed as soon as possible, the occupants of two of the buildings having agreed to go almost immediately.
