JUNIOR RUGBY REFEREES.

THURSDAY’S APPOINTMENTS. . The fixtures and the referees for the junior Rugby competitions in the central division on Thursday are:— First junior: Pukengahu v. Cardiff, Mr. L. Knowles; Old Boys v. Tariki, Mr. Fussell; Inglewood v. Eltham, Mr. Blackstock; Toko v. Midhirst, Mr. C. Evans. Third grade: Cardiff v. Stratford, Mr. G. Were; Old Boys v. Inglewood, Mr. F. Nolan. Fourth grade: School A v. Stratford, to be arranged; Toko v. School B, Mr. J. Jones. MAINTENANCE OF DOMAINS. STRATFORD BOARD MEETING. The Stratford Domain Board met last night, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. McMillan) presiding over the councillors and Mr. G. Hunter. The caretaker, Mr. E. P. Blanchard, reported that the flower beds leading from the main entrance of Victoria Park were dug over and top-dressed with sieved soil. The lawsoniana trees along Regan Street footpath were cut back. The old gate taken from Regan Street was erected at the Brecon Road entrance to King Edward Park and a small gate was made and erected along the side. ? PERSONAL ITEMS. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. S. B. Hunter was passed last night by the Stratford Borough Council, Mr. Hunter having been a councillor some years ago. Mr. W. Bonner, Ngaere, left by the express on Saturday on a holiday trip. Mr. C. Symons, of ’the Stratford railway staff, has been transferred to Wanganui, and his place has been taken by Mr. W. A. Jenkins.

STRATFORD BOROUGH RATES. AMOUNT FOR CURRENT YEAR. Rates totalling 5 3-16 d plus the sanitation fee and water rate were struck last night by the Stratford Borough Council for the 1934-35 year. Details of the rates are: General 2%d, special lMsd, harbour 15-16 d, sanitation fee £1 6s, water rate 9d in the £ on the annual value. ■

LIGHTING OF FOOTPATHS. A plan for uniform lighting of footpaths along Broadway Central, Stratford, was approved by the borough council last night. Tenders will be called and the work commenced as soon, as satisfactory arrangements are made for signboards. Applications from occupiers of premises outside Broadway. Central for installation of the system were deferred until the central area is completed.
