£600 SPENT ON RELIEF

THIRTEEN MONTHS IN HAWERA. From the end of March, 1933, to March 25, 1934, the Hawera Citizens’ Relief Committee distributed 2284 rations, according to a report presented to the meeting of the committee. The total cost was over £6OO. Of the total, tea made up 12361 b, sugar 10,4441 b, rice 21351 b, oatmeal 32171 b, flour 14,9411 b, bread 3468 loaves, butter 26261 b, barley 1851 b, sago 1271 b potatoes 63841 b, eggs 203 dozen, cheese 2991 b. The total weighed 21 tons, 16cwt. In addition, a total of 17801 b of seed potatoes was distributed free. Eightyeight pairs of working trousers were supplied and 44 pairs of working boots were subsidised by the committee. Inclusive of grocery orders, the value of the food nations distributed was £616 7s lid, the subsidy on trousers and boots being £149 5s 6d. The expenses were £1 2s 6d and the total spent on relief during 13 months was £765 13s sd.
