WEST END SCHOOL JUBILEE
APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIALS. Matters connected with the organisation of the West End School jubilee celebrations from Sunday, March 3, 1935, to Saturday, March 9, were advanced a further stage at a meeting last night. Mr. C. O. Berg, chairman of the school committee, was appointed chairman of , the carnival committee, Mr. H. J. Abram general secretary, and Mr. T. Petty Organiser. The three will act ex-officio on all the following sub-committee, appointed with power to add:—
Roll and invitations: Messrs. W. A. Brown, E. Brokenshire, A. Petty, Mesdames Ruff and Joll.
Sunday (church parade and service); Mesdames C. O. Berg and Royce, Messrs. W. G. Aked, S. Rielly and T. Petty. Monday (official opening of the jubilee and social evening): Messrs. A. H. Bailey, C. Frewin, F. Hooker, Mesdames Royce, Hoben, Pattersen and A. H. Bailey.
Thursday (old girls’ reunion): Mesdames Patterson (convenor), Hopkins, Sole and Hodder and Miss Jury. Smoke concert: Messrs. K. Jury (convenor), W. Thomson, R. O’Dowda, F. E. May and E. le Pine. Friday (children’s gathering and fancy dress ball): Mesdames W. H. Jones (convenor), T. Charters, Bell, Berg, Duffin, Solomon, Ruff, J. Kerr, McCullough, V. Pruden, W. A. Brown, W. H. Broome, Davis, Walls, Hoben. Saturday (gymkhana and procession in afternoon): Mr. H. Bennett (convenor), Dr. G. H. Thomson, Messrs. S. Jury, G. Newell, C. Deare, A. W. Scott, L. Smart, T. Petty, S. Rielly, A. McLean, W. G. Aked, R. O’Dowda, E. Brokenshire,
The chairmen and secretaries of the sub-committees were appointed a carnival finance committee, with Messrs. Berg and Abram.
The arrangement of a programme for the Tuesday night was left to the Home and School Association. Mr. Brown suggested that on the Wednesday those attending the jubilee celebrations should be invited to inspect the school.
