AN APOLOGY

BIG NEWS FOR MOTORISTS Cawthray Motors wish to tender their sincere apologies to the public of Taranaki for the delay in the arrival of the new “Air-Flow” Chrysler and De Soto Cars, which have been inadvertently held up through the waterside workers’ 'strike in San Francisco. This makes it impossible for Messrs. Cawthray Motors to adhere to their previous plan of staging a special display at the Winter Show. Prospective car buyers are advised, however, to await the arrival of these remarkable cars towards the end of this month before making their decision. It is generally recognised that the new “air-flow” Chryslers and De Sotos introduce a new epoch in motor-car construction, completely revolutionising the automobile .industry by their engine design and perfect stream-lining, undoubtedly setting a new standard which renders present-day designs obsolete.

Another outstanding car soon to arrive in Messrs. Cawthray Motors Showrooms is the popular Hillman 20-70, one of England’s outstanding productions. Shipments of new models are due from the Old Country within a few weeks. During Show Week, however, Messrs. Cawthray Motors have a special display at their own showrooms of the new Hillman Minx, the peer among light cars. The Minx, with a 10.30 h.p. engine is not a baby car, but is the happy medium between the baby class and the heavier sedan car. It is so complete and well designed that it is acknowledged as a family saloon. Its running costs compete more than favourably with. a baby car, averaging above 35 m.p.g.; its performance is that of a much higher priced car; its cushioned power ably demonstrates its engine’s remarkable capacity. “Cushioned” power is an exclusive feature and can only be experienced by driving behind a Hillman wheel. The new Minx*is built to give a brilliancy of silent performance that is unequalled. It is a quality car—not “mass” manufactured—which production in volume alone enables to be sold at such an extremely reasonable figure. A particular feature of the 1934 model is the easy gear change. The Minx has an easy change 4-speed gear-box with silent “traffic top." In addition it has free-wheel as standard, giving a delightful, clutchless gear-change. Don’t miss seeing this superlative light car. An announcement of especial interest is made by Messrs. Cawthray Motors, to the effect that during Show Week their comprehensive selection of tested used cars will be offered at especially reduced prices. Visit their showrooms, Devon Street, and save money on your next car. BRITISH TYRES AND OILS QUALITY AND LONG SERVICE Motorists and farmers especially should be particularly interested in Messrs. W. W. Thomson and Son’s display at the show comprising India super tyres and tubes, Silvertown lubricants, quality gum boots and a full range of milking machine rubberware. “India” super tyres and tubes are well-known to all Taranaki motorists, and are to-day enjoying an enviable reputation throughout New Zealand. The “India” is manufactured in Glasgow, and has, since its introduction to this Dominion, set up some marvellous mileage records. The tyres are made of only the finest materials, a glance at the tread being sufficient to suggest long service. “India” tyres are undoubtedly the leaders in tyre and tube construction to-day, and offer miles of honest wear. A trial will convince you. Messrs. Thomson and Son have been appointed Taranaki distributors for Silvertown Lubricants Ltd., London, and since assuming the agency they have had considerable success in their sales of these high quality British oils to motorists and commercial users. They have also had extensive business with dairy factories throughout the province. They are direct importers of these oils and are able to offer them at competitive prices. The goods are guaranteed true to label as the oil delivered by them is in the original containers. There is no blending or packing in New Zealand. Silvertown Lubricants are entirely British, the firm having been established on the banks of the Thames 45 years ago. To-day the works cover 14 acres, and they have bulk storage for 30,000 tons of oil. t

The display also includes some fine ranges of knee and thigh gum boots very suitable for farmers and guaranteed to stand up to hard solid wear. Messrs. Thomson and Son specialise in milking machine rubberware, and have a fine display of these lines, which they have just landed. Everyone, but specially motorists and farmers, will find something of interest on this stand.
