DAIRY FACTORY AND DUST

NUISANCE AT TIKORANGI.

DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL. In order to counteract the dust nuisance at the Tikorangi Co-operative Dairy Company’s factory on Inland North Road, the Clifton County Council yesterday decided to seal about six chains of the road. The decision followed a request by a deputation comprising Messrs. C. Foreman and J. Paulger from the dairy company. The company was making extensive alterations to its factory, said Mr. Foreman, and intended to seal the right-of-way and the area about the factory. The dust nuisance had been very noticeable for several years and the company desired the' council to seal a short length of the road in front of the factory. • Mr. Paulger pointed out that the new platform, at the factory would face directly on to the road and the dust from the road blew into the factory. About five or six chains would require to- be sealed, said the chairman, Mr. H. A. Foreman. A metalled side track for horse traffic on the hill would also be an advantage, said Mr. C. Foreman. Most of the dust came from the bottom of the hill, said the chairman, and the worst effects, came from the westerly and southerly winds. The expenditure would npt be great as the road was a highway and there would probably be little difficulty in ! getting a subsidy. ' Similar' work was done at Waitoitoi, said Cr. J. F. Phillips. It had been a vast improvement. The cost would be approximately £66, the council paying £2O and the Highways Board £4O. The engineer was instructed to make immediate application for a subsidy.
