MONEY RUNNING INTO BANK

DEPOSITS EXCEED WITHDRAWALS. CONSIDERED TO BE GOOD SIGN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. “Money is now running back into the Post Office Savings Bank and that is one of the best indications of New Zealand’s return to better days,” said the Postmaster-General (Hon. Adam Hamilton) in an interview to-day. Mr. Hamilton said the excess of withdrawals over savings in bank deposits had been very marked in 1931 and 1932. Indeed in July, 1931, the excess had 'been £1,147,880, while in the five other months withdrawals exceeded deposits by over £500,000. The excess of withdrawals in the 12 months ended April, 1933, was £2,479,272. Now, he was pleased to say, money was returning to the post office. From May, 1933, to April, 1934, the excess of deposits over withdrawals totalled £1,037,062.
