SERIES OF ACCIDENTS

MOKAU GENERAL AND PERSONAL. While working at the Mokau factory a few days ago Mr. B. Paltridge was struck by a large hammer, receiving painful injuries to his left hand. At football on Saturday at Awakini Mr. C. Hepburn, Mokau, severely jarred his neck and collarbone. In the same match Mr. R. Whitehead broke a bone in his right hand. Miss I. Pratt, Mokau, received severe scalds to her left arm on Tuesday night. What, promises to be a successful badminton club has been recently formed at Mokau. The Rev. J. Templar, who was instrumental in forming the club, has worked hard to make it a success, and has already obtained a considerable quantity of the necessary equipment. There are 30 members enrolled. Several practices have been held in the Mokau hall. The Mokau school committee held a dance in the Mokau hall on Tuesday night to raise funds for the school dental clinic and sports. The attendance was disappointing, and from a financial point the dance was not a success. The music was supplied by Mrs. Beattie (piano) and Mr. L. Bryant (violin). Extras were played by Miss Sampson and Mr. F. Northern. During the evening Mr. P. Cavanagh danced an Irish jig. Novelty dances were won by Mrs. F. Widt and Mr. P. Mutu (Monte Carlo), Mrs. Ross and Mr. M. Pratt (mystery dance), and Miss M. Marusich and Mr. T. Marusich (novelty waltzing competition). The masters of ceremonies were Messrs Templar, Pratt and Scott. Mrs. Ross is visiting her mother, Mrs. Bell, Mokau. Mrs. S. Whitehead, Mokau, is on a short visit to Raglan. Miss M. Rattenbury, Mokau, is spending a few days at New Plymouth. Miss I. M. Sinclair has returned from a holiday spent at Rotorua. Miss N. Kiernan is the guest of Mrs. M. C. Pratt, Mokau River. Miss E. Christoffel has taken up duties as sole teacher at the Mangatoi School, Mokau River.
