At' the Wanganui sale to-day, Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., offered a good yarding in all sections. Store sheep sold very well at an advance on last week, fat sheep and lambs being firm on recent sales. Fat cattle sold better than last week, but all store cattle were dull, and passings were heavy. A heavy entry of pigs was down by 2s 6d a head for porkers, stores showing a fall of Is. Sheep: Prime ewes, 19s 10d, 20s, 20s 9d; fat ewes, 17s 6d, 19s Id; forward ewes, 12s 6d, 15s; fat lambs, 20s, 22s 9d; extra good lambs, 30s; lighter, 17s 6d to 19s lOd; light wethers, 22s 9d to 235; wether lambs, 12s 9d, 15s 2d, 16s 6d; ewes to S.D. rams, 235; cull ewes, 6s 6d, 8s 9d, 10s. Good vealers, 36s to 41s; vealers, 28s to 345; calvers, 10s to 235. HAWKE’S BAY VALUES ON A PAR WITH RECENT SALES. Hastings, May 23. Prices were much on a par with those of last week in the fat cattle section at to-day’s sale at Stortfqrd Lodge. There was a moderate yarding and the demand was steady throughout the sale. With local and export buyers operating, very few entries were passed. Bullocks, medium to prime, £6 5s to £7 13s 6d; others, from £5; cows, medium to prime, £3 16s to £4 18s 6d; others from £3 ss; heifers, medium to prime, £4 4s 6d to £5; others, from £3 ss. Store cattle made late rates, with, a fair inquiry from local farmers. Steers and bullocks sold to £5, heifers to £2, and cows to £1 Is.

Fat sheep showed an improvement on lambs, ewes making late rates while wethers were on par to slightly improved. Export competition was keen on lambs. Ewes, medium to prime, 17s 6d to 20s; others, from 15s. Wethers, medium to prime, 22s 6d to 265; others, from 21s 6d. Lambs, 16s to 23s Bd.

The store sheep comprised chiefly lambs and hoggets, which sold at late rates, with a slight improvement on some lines. Wethers were unchanged, while breeding ewes, which were few, showed little change. Wethers sold to 225, lambs to 18s 6d, and ewes to 23s 6d. MASTERTON SALE SPIRITED COMPETITION. Masterton, May 23. All sheep offered at the Masterton sale to-day met spirited competition, and recent prices were well maintained. Cattle, chiefly station-bred, had a particularly good sale. Weaner steers sold well, and one line of extra choice P-A. steers offered by the N.Z- Farmers’ Cooperative Distributing Co., Ltd., on account of Mr. J. H. Cameron, brought £2 ss. Prices for pigs were slightly better. The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company reports having realised the following prices: Sheep: Good fat ewes, 19s; light ewes, 16s to 16s 9d; fat lambs, 18s 9d, 19s 6d to 20s; store sheep, mixed aged ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 21s 9d; 5-year ewes, 19s 8d; medium b.f. lambs, 16s to 16s 6d; good w.f. wether lambs, 16s to 16s 9d; medium do., 13s 6d to 14s; store ewes, 10s, 12s to 13s 6d. Fat cattle: Prime heavy heifers, £5 7s 6d; prime cows, £4 ss, £4 7s 6d to £4 10s; light cows, £2 15s to £3. Store cattle: Weaner P.A. steers, £1 10s, £1 15s, £1 18s to £2 ss; weaner P.A. heifers, £1 12s to £1 16s; P.A. cows, r.w.b., 26 at £2 3s and 22 at £2 3s; cows and calves, £2 17s; store cows, £1 6s to £1 8s; cows due in spring, £1 10s to £2; heavy potter bulls, £2 15s to £3 ss; weaner Jersey heifers, 12s to 14s. Pigs: Good weaners, 7s to 10s; small weaners, ss, 6s to 6s 6d. Prices for the yarding offered by Dalgety and Co., Ltd., were as follow: Fat 2-tooth ewes, 21s to 23s 7d; fat wethers, 22s 3d to 24s lOd; 5-year ewes, r.w. S.D. rams, 22s 6d; shorn ewe lambs, Ils; shorn wether lambs, Ils Id; shorn m.s. lambs, 7s Bd. The yarding offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., brought the following prices: W.f. shorn wether lambs, 13s to 14s Id; shorn ewe lambs, 14s 6d; small lambs. 9s Id to 9s 6d; forward ewes, 16s to 17s 6d.
