THE GLENARA OFFERING
NATIONAL AND COMBINED SALES. The Glenara stud on the Egmont Road owned by Mr. A. G. Colson will be represented at the Jersey week series by a very even and select line of ten two-year-olds in calf heifers, two of which are to be submitted at the National Female Sale on Monday and the remainder at the club sale on Tuesday. Mr. Colson has used bulls out of high producing and show cows like Elf’s Beauty 8001 b fat, Sylvia of OK 6791 b fat and Lady Ivy nearly 8001 b fat, as well as a halfbrother to August Child, which held the two-year-old record. He also used Napper a bull with nine C.O.R. daughters. The best imported strains from such great bulls a Wotton Red Buoy, Viola’s Golden Laddie, Clarin, Sybil’s Volunteer, Grannie’s Knight etc. How they have effected the herd is shown by the fact that for four years under group herd-testing the 45 cows including all carry overs, have averaged respectively 3451 b fat, 3281 b fat, 3401 b fat and last year 3651 b fat in 298 days. Last year’s cows included five carried over from the previous season and eight heifers. .The cows were treated under herd conditions, receiving no special attention. Mr. Colson milks entirely by hand and so has had no time for showing, but the even appearance of the stock indicates that they would make a name for the stud, in the show ring if given the opportunity. The two heifers for submission at the national sale are by Glenara Moneymaker, a bull by the imported champion Sybil’s Volunteer, who has made a name for himself in New Zealand with butterfat record daughters out of Gracious, who is closely related to the Empire champion Sultan’s Daisy 9681 b fat. Both heifers’ dams have aristocratic breeding and ‘under group testing have records of 3951 b fat and 3041 b fat respectively. Six of the. eight to be submitted at the club sale on Tuesday are by Glenara Moneymaker out of well-ba eked butterfat cows one of which has given up to 5031 b fat under herd-testing and another heifer is by Oakvale Supreme, a Pinewood Golden Laddie bull out of Oakvale Treasure, who goes back on the dams side to Grannie’s Knight. The other heifer is by Jersey Bank Marshal, who is descended from the imported Marshal Aldan. Mr. Colson also has a line of 17 young bulls, whose dams averaged 40110 fat.
