CATHOLIC CHURCHES CLOSED

ORDER OF MEXICAN GOVERNOR. PRIESTS MUST LEAVE STATE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Nogales (Arizona), May 21. All the Roman Catholic churches in Sonora, a State of Mexico, were closed to-day by order of Governor Rodolfo Elias Calles, as the culmination of three State circulars to educators, civic officials and executive heads, requesting that they express their anti-fanatical views respecting religion. Many officials resigned, it was said as a consequence of this State request, Sonora Catholics claim that the Government closure of the churches is an expression of Governor Calles antireligious views. Additional instructions from the State Government stated that priests must leave the State in less than 12 hours.
