INTRUDER IN BEDROOM

FRIGHTENED BY SCREAMS. J WOMAN AWAKENED BY TORCH. The screams of a woman who woke to find a burglar in her bedroom at her home in Mount Eden Road, Auckland, about 4 a.m. on Thursday so startled the man that he dropped a purse he was examining and escaped. It is thought the intruder visited at least one other room in the house, as a bedroom door and a wardrobe, which had been closed on Wednesday night, were found open yesterday morning, and an art union ticket was missing from a waistcoat in the wardrobe. The beam from an electric torch carried by the intruder woke the woman. She saw the man standing at her dress-

ing table, examining her purse, and she promptly screamed. The burglar immediately dropped the purse and ran out of the room, down a passage and through the back door, which he had evidently left open when he entered. A boarder in the house, Mr. T. Dwyer, said later that although he did not hear the man, he believed that his room was

searched. The bedroom door had been closed on Wednesday night and was open yesterday morning, while the wardrobe door also was open. The other occupants of the house were awakened by the screams of the woman who saw the burglar. Nothing was found to have been disturbed, however, in any of the other rooms.
