QUEEN CARNIVAL AT URUTI
SUCCESSFUL GATHERINGS HELD. The queen carnival organised by the Uruti parochial district of the Anglican Church is proceeding. Three gatherings have been held at Uruti. A dance was held at which Miss Ruth Rea was elected as the Uruti queen. Flag five hundred parties were held at the residences of Mesdames C. H. Short and N. Jones. Each added to the number of votes polled in favour of the Uruti queen. Despite the weather a fair number of settlers attended at the Pukearuhe hall last Thursday night to elect a queen for the Pukearuhe-Waitoitoi district. Four were nominated and after a spirited contest Miss N. Baker beat Miss B. Luxton by a small majority. Voting has been very keen and the Pukearuhe-Waitoitoi queen has a slight lead over the Uruti queen. No returns have come in so far from the other .districts; ' Okoke, Ahititi-Okau-TongaporutU and Mokau.
