MEMBERSHIP OF R.S.A.

PROTEST AGAINST METHODS. ADMINISTRATION OF FUNDS. “This meeting of returned soldiers protests against the use of the administration of labour subsidies from relief funds as a lever to secure membership of the Returned Soldiers’ Association,” was a resolution passed at a largely attended meeting at Hawera last nignt. A relief worker alleged that when he approached the association for a subsidy on work he was refused because he was not a financial member. Later he received subsidised work, but 2s 6d was taken out of the subsidy to go towards his subscription. Mr. M. R. Jones, president of the association, defended the action of the executive. He said the association was responsible for the funds being available and paid for the administration of them, so it was only fair that men getting the benefit should form the association. Mr. H. A. Morgan condemned the executive’s action. If a man was unemployed it explained why he was not a member of the association, he said. KAKARAMEA HALL FUNDS WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DANCE.
