ULM FLYING TASMAN
SPECIAL GOODWILL FLIGHT FAITH IN AUSTRALIA’S TRIP. TO LAND AT NEW PLYMOUTH. Mr. C. T. P. Ulm, in the Faith in Australia, is on his way to New Zealand on a special goodwill flight to carry messages from the Prime Minister at Australia to the Prime Minister of New Zealand. He left the Richmond aerodrome at 9.40 o’clock last night (11.10 New Zealand time), with Messrs. G. U. Allan, co-pilot and radio operator and R. B. Boulton, engineer, as companions. The plane is expected at the New Plymouth aerodrome between 1 o’clock and 3.30 this afternoon, and after a stay of half an hour it will be flown on to Wellington. Mr. Ulm is making his fifth flight across the Tasman in his own machine. It is not expected that the trip will be fast, for southerly winds are likely to delay him, though no longer than ordinarily. He will be met at the aerodrome by officials of the New Plymouth Airport Board and Aero Club. The reception, however, will be informal, and after a stay of half an hour to check over the engines Mr. Ulm will fly on to the Rongotai aerodrome at Wellington. At Wellington he will give Mr. - the greetings from Mr. J. A. Lyons, Prime Minister of Australia. It is probable that the Faith in Australia will be flown to 90-mile beach on Monday for the return flight to Sydney early in the week. A Sydney cable states that when the Faith in Australia left Richmond aerodrome the night was fine and cloudless. A later message says Ulm passed over Sydney about 10 p.m. and flew out across the Tasman. He reported that all was well.
